Search engine users are more likely to view the first three pages of search results. According to iProspect, 92% of search engine users only view first three pages of search results. Search engine users frequently change their keywords or search engine if they don’t find expected results from the first three pages of search results. In another report released by OneStat.com, 58.93% of search engine users prefer 2-3 word phrases while using search engines.

In 2008, the numbers of search engine users who view only first page are about 68% and it was 48% in 2006. 62.12% of all worldwide users view 1-2 pages of search results and 12.77% of total users view 2-3 pages of search results. Search engine users rarely go beyond the first three pages of search results.

49% of search engine users change keywords or search engines based on the results
In 2008, search engine users who visits only first three pages and go back to change their keywords or search engine if they don’t find the solution within the first three pages of results has increased to 49% from 40% in 2006. It is obvious that users don’t hesitate to change their search engines if they don’t get expected search results in first three pages of search results.

58.93% of search engine users use 2-3 word phrases as keywords
31.91% of search engine users use 2 word phrases and 27.02% uses 3 word phrases as their keywords. 14.75% of users use more than 3 word phrases in their keywords. Search engine users prefer 2-3 word phrases as their keywords to get desired results in first three pages of search results.

39% of search engine users believe company websites that appear in top search results are leaders in their field
About 39% of total search engine users believe that the company frequently topping the search results is market leader and 42% of users are neutral about this. Sometimes, image of the company is measured by the number of times the company appearing in search results. Companies by appearing frequently in search list can improve their image in online market.

Significance of making a website search engine friendly is ever-increasing, as a large number of search engine users are relating market leadership with top positions in search results. Selecting right and concise keywords is also important as most search engine users prefer to visit only the first three pages. Keyword relevancy to the website is significant as customers change keywords based on the search results.
