Not many people understand the difference between web developers and webmasters. Webmasters are involved with some website development. Actually the webmaster role is something that even many software developers are unaware of. However, in the client company this is an important role and that helps run the websites smoothly without any issues, problems or interruptions.

Web developers develop software applications for business clients using web forms, scripts, other back-end functionalities. Webmaster is a website administrator, or website coordinator is a person responsible for maintaining websites and ensuring they work perfectly.
Web developers usually master programming concepts and they understand andare able to write PHP, HTML, CSS, MySQL, JavaScript codes, and other related programming. Webmaster duties may include implementing analytics tags, SEO optimization, handing web hosting issues, adding email accounts for staff. In addition, ensuring that the web servers are operating correctly, generating and revising web pages, website testing, and website security.
Web developers focus on the development of a new software app. They’re concerned with how the new software app should work. Webmasters take the final version of the web apps after user acceptance testing and implement them in live environment. They know how to trouble shoot any website or server issues but have very limited programming skills.
Web developers has wide knowledge in programming. He is able to build the complex systems and architecture. Webmaster have basic programming skills. He just know how to write simple codes which are used to maintain the existing websites. They have good business, process knowledge and technical environment.

The number of developer roles are many but the number of webmaster roles are less. Webmaster roles are long term and continuous roles, the webmaster roles are rarely outsourced as they are critical for the running of the company IT infrastructure.
