Advertising Standard Council of India (ASCI)
The Advertising Standard Council of India (ASCI) is a self-regulatory voluntary organisation of the advertising industry, especially for the advertising content. It adopted a code for self-regulation in advertising with an aim to promote honest and decent advertising in order to enhance consumer’s interest and confidence in advertising. The main function of the council is to make sure that the advertising material is truthful, legal, not objectify women, safe for consumers, and fair to their competitors.
ASCI’s code for self-regulation in advertising is highly valid and any violation to it is like violation of government rules. The council propagates its code to all the advertisers, advertising agencies and all other agencies related to ad-creation and media. The council formed a special committee called Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) to address the grievances of consumers regarding any bad or false advertisements.
